In order to prepare, file and present an Application before the Bernardsville Board of Adjustment, the applicant shall:
  1. Obtain Application, checklist and other necessary forms from Administrative Officer of the Board of Adjustment (Joy Vavrek - 908-766-3850, Ext. 145)

  2. Obtain from the Zoning Officer a Zoning Officer Denial letter (if applicable).

  3. Submit the following to the Administrative Officer:

    a) Completed application, checklist and other forms, including payment of tax statement

    b) Eighteen folded copies of the plot plan or blueprints (may include surveys and other drawings applicable to what is proposed).

    c) Names and addresses of owners, partners or corporate stockholders, where applicable

    d) Checks for fees and escrow deposit payable to the Borough of Bernardsville (obtain amounts from Administrative Officer)

  4. Obtain Certified List of Bernardsville property owners within 200 feet of subject property from Bernardsville Tax Collector's Office. (If there are properties within 200 ft. located in adjoining municipality, obtain a similar list from the appropriate officer of such municipality)

  5. The Administrative Officer will review the application and checklist for completeness. If either is incomplete, a letter listing incomplete items will be sent to the Applicant. Once the application and checklist are deemed complete, the application and checklist will be submitted to the Board at a work meeting for completeness. Once complete, the application can be scheduled.

  6. At least ten (10) days prior to scheduled meeting, serve notice to neighbors and publish notice in official paper as required by law.

  7. Submit the following to the Administrative Officer at least ten (10) days prior to the scheduled meeting:

    a) Property owner list, completed as to date and manner of service (if in person, have property owner sign and date)

    b) Copy of form of public notice served

    c) Copy of newspaper Affidavit of Publication or of notice

    d) Affadavit of Service duly notarized

  8. At the Public Hearing, the applicant shall present sufficient evidence to justify the granting of the relief requested.

The applicant may appear in person or may be represented by an attorney-at-law of New Jersey. Corporations and partnerships must be represented by an attorney-at-law of New Jersey.
