A new Winter Market will open inside the Bernardsville Train station on Saturday, January 4. Taking advantage of the currently vacant building, the indoor market will be open Saturdays from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm through March 28.
With the strong support of the Mayor and Borough Council, and building on the success of the enlarged summer Farmers’ Market, the Winter Market will include a number of popular vendors from the summer market, as well as new vendors with seasonal offerings of all kinds.
"Bernardsville has many rich traditions", Mayor Mary Jane Canose. "The train station completed in 1902 as a one-story stone structure, is still active." And one of the proud traditions was farming. The railroad was crucial to the transport of peaches and other crops grown in this fertile area. In the 1930’s there was a thriving farmer’s market serving the downtown. More recently, an outdoor farmers’ market has been running in the train station parking lot for over 25 years.
"Now in 2020, a new Winter Market, will open in the original train station to help spark new growth downtown," said the Mayor. "Amazingly, the original interior features of the building are still intact."
The Winter Market is open January 4 to March 28 on Saturdays from 10 am to 1 pm. See you there!
