Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • Q:

Where do I apply for a marriage license?

Apply in the municipality where at least one applicant resides in. If neither reside in NJ, then apply in the municipality the wedding ceremony will take place.

  • Q:

Where do I get a certified copy of a birth certificate?

In the municipality the birth took place in. Since there is no hospital in Bernardsville, most birth records are not obtained from Bernardsville.

  • Q:

How do I obtain a certified copy of my marriage license?

A written request is made to the Registrar, stating the applicants names as they appear on the license, and stating the date of the marriage. There is a $10 fee per certified copy. ID must also be shown, a photo drivers license is the most common form of ID used, contact the Registrar for more info on ID.
