The Registrar is responsible for Vital Statistics, such as Marriage, Birth, and Death records. This department is responsible for issuing marriage licenses and certified copies of marriage or death records.

    Where do I apply for a marriage license?

    A:

    Apply in the municipality the bride to be or groom to be resides in. If neither reside in NJ, then apply in the municipality the wedding ceremony will take place.

    Where do I get a certified copy of a birth certificate?

    A:

    In the municipality the birth took place in. Since there is no hospital in Bernardsville, most birth records are not obtained from Bernardsville.

    How do I obtain a certified copy of my marriage license?

    A:

    A written request is made to the Registrar, stating the bride and groom names as they appear on the license, and stating the date of the marriage. There is a $10 fee per certified copy. ID must also be shown, a photo drivers license is the most common form of ID used, contact the Registrar for more info on ID.

    A:

    If a birth, marriage, or death occurred in Bernardsville before June 2, 1924, the record will be in Bernards Township. Contact the Bernards Township Registrar at 908-204-3070.
