The Recreation Department provides a variety of community recreation programs for children of all ages and adults. We provide:

Recreation Programs

Bernardsville Recreation offers a variety of programs for all age groups year round.

The programs vary for the children: After School Enrichment, Basketball, Wrestling, Cartooning Workshops, a wide array of Summer Camps, and much more.

For the adults the programs offered are bus trips to different exciting locations and also we have Senior Theme Parties throughout the year.

Recreation Facilities

Polo Grounds

The Polo Grounds consist of a football field, baseball field, and a multi-purpose field. Currently under construction for additional multi-purpose fields.

Upper Polo Field Turf Project Information

Location: From the Rte. 202 Mt. Airy Road intersection travel 1 mile North on Anderson Hill Road. Right onto Seney Drive. Roadway 1/2 mile on Right at School.


Kiwanis consists of 2 Little League playing fields and Peter's Park Playground.

Location: From the Rte. 202 Mt. Airy Road intersection travel 1 mile South on Mt. Airy Road. Right onto Bernards Ave. Left onto Maple Street. Right onto Pine Street.


Claremont consists of a Little League field, Tiny Tot Playground, and the Recreation Field House.

Location: From the Rte. 202 Mt. Airy Road intersection travel North on Anderson Hill Road. Left onto Mine Mt. Road. Left onto Park Lane. Park is at the end of Park Lane.


Rosebowl is a lighted softball field.

Location: From the Rte. 202 Mt. Airy Road intersection travel 1 mile South on Route 202. Field is located after Borough Hall.

    No, only if you live in the Borough of Bernardsville are you considered a resident.


Recreational Fields: Policy & Procedures


It is the goal of the Bernardsville Recreation Committee to encourage the usage of its recreational fields for worthwhile, non-profit purposes when such uses do not interfere with the Borough or school-sponsored recreational programs.

The Department of Recreation reserves the exclusive right to determine the eligibility of an organization and to assign a classification and prioritization to any application for the use of fields.

These organizations whose aim and intended use are consistent with the general policy- entitled Terms for Use of Fields – shall be considered eligible and classified as follows:

  1. Recreation shall be construed as any program sponsored by the Recreation Department.
  2. School shall be construed to mean any program sponsored by the Somerset Hills School District.
  3. Community shall be construed to mean an organization whose membership, the majority (50% + 1) of whose membership is domiciled in Bernardsville.
  4. Area shall be construed to mean an organization whose members reside in neighboring towns and at least 25% are Bernardsville residents.
  5. Out of Area shall be construed to mean an organization that has less than 25% of its members residing in Bernardsville.
  6. Any Area or Out of Area group will be required to submit its game/practice schedule to determine its field allocation, which will be based upon its resident ratio.
  7. Profit Organizations shall be assessed a fee under the following schedule as per Resolution #2000-31: Profit organizations: $200 for every 1 to 2 hrs block.
  8. Non-Profit Organizations must submit proof of their 501-(c) status.

Field Allocations: Fields will be allocated to the above Community, Area, and Out of Area groups according to percentage of Bernardsville residents.

Code of Conduct: The Recreation Committee supports sportsmanship on behalf of all involved in events conducted on Borough of Bernardsville property. In accordance with NJ Statutes Chapter 74 of Title 5 (August 25, 2002), applicants are required to submit their Code of Conduct for athletes, parents coaches, and officials addressing their guidelines for verbal threats, physical threats, profanity and initiation of fighting or contact. This should include policies for banning and reinstitution of persons who violate the code of conduct.

Rosters: All team organizations, excluding the schools, must submit team rosters that include names and addresses of all participants along with the field usage request.

Along with rosters, all teams must submit the dates, days, times and field/fields requested. Every organization’s authorized representative must sign and return the form provided that they have read and understand all rules and regulations.

2015 Bernardsville Community Pool

Whether you enjoy reading at poolside, taking advantage of our WiFi, or a vigorous exercising swim, you will enjoy doing it here, along with lots of other activities. The pool staff will provide planned programs such as games and fun for the youngsters, and ping-pong at NO CHARGE. (Some equipment may require a refundable deposit.) There are also special functions held at the pool such as family day, volleyball and movies. Why not have a party for a special someone? (Contact pool manager for details.) All of us here at the Bernardsville Municipal Pool hope you will join us for days of summer fun.

This swim season will begin May 23rd, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. and end on Labor Day at 6:00 p.m.

2015 Summer Camp Registration Announced

The Summer Programs Brochure explaining all the summer programs being offered this year can now be viewed below.

For your convenience, registration will begin on Saturday, April 11, 2015 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in person at Borough Hall, 166 Mine Brook Rd., or 8 a.m. on line at

Due to last year’s wait list, only Bernardsville residents will be allowed to sign up April 11, 2015  for the Rec Camp. On April 25, the camp will open to non-residents on a first come first serve basis. Non- residents will be allowed to register on the wait list beginning at 8:00am April 11, 2015.  Please register at to place yourself on the wait list. This is for the six and seven week Rec camp only.  

2015 Swim Team / Pre-Team

Registration has begun for the 2015 Swim Team and Pre-Team programs.

The Bernardsville Swim Team is comprised of boys and girls, aged 7-18 yrs of age who are interested in competitive swimming. The team competes in the Morris County Swim League and participates in 8 dual meets. Practices begin June 22nd and concludes with the Meet of Champions. Regular attendance at practice is recommended. Although the nature of the team is competitive, fun activities such as bagel breakfasts and a Team Pasta party are planned at the pool. Swim Team members are encouraged to purchase a team suit.

The Summer swim team divides children into age groups for competitive swimming.  A Child’s swimming age is determined by their age as of July 1st. The Swim Team is for children who are competent swimmers and are interested in participating in competitive meets. Swimmers must be able to swim at least two of the competitive strokes proficiently.  All swim team members must be members of the Bernardsville Pool.
Fee is $100 including swim cap, and $90 each additional child up to 5.

The pre-team program is designed for the 6-8 year old swimmer who is interested in becoming a member of the competitive swim team, but who still requires stroke skill development. Pre-team swimmers will work on refinement of their freestyle and backstroke, and will be introduced to breast- stroke, butterfly, starts and turns. They will participate in 2-3 pre-team meets toward the end of the season.

First time participants in the Pre-team program will also be required to take the Intermediate level swimming lessons concurrently with pre-team. Program fee is $90, which includes a team t-shirt and 2-3 pre-team meets.

2015 Swim Lessons

The Bernardsville Municipal Pool is offering swim lessons for three sessions: Session I: June 22— July 3; Session II: July 6—July 17; Session III: July 20—July 31. Participants are limited to two sessions. Fees are $90 per session for members.

All swimmers will be separated by instructors into Beginner 1, 2 and 3 skills classes (according to their tested ability) on the first day of class. This will be your child’s class for the duration of their lessons.

Swim lessons for Beginners and Advanced Beginners age 4 and up—provided that the child is comfortable in the water. The object is to teach students a basic knowledge of swimming and water safety. Once each swimmer has been divided into his or her group, the instructor will teach lesson plans according to their level.

Swim lessons are very popular and classes fill up quickly. Class size will be limited. In order to reserve lessons, complete the registration form and return it along with your payment in person or mail to:
