Recreation Department

The Recreation Department provides a variety of community recreation programs for children of all ages and adults. We provide:

  • Pool Memberships
  • Summer Camps
  • Trips
  • After school enrichment programs
  • Special events such as the Memorial Day Parade, Fishing Derby & Family Day

Recreation Programs

Bernardsville Recreation offers a variety of programs for all age groups year round.

The programs vary for the children: After School Enrichment, Basketball, Wrestling, Cartooning Workshops, a wide array of Summer Camps, and much more.

For the adults the programs offered are bus trips to different exciting locations and also we have Senior Theme Parties throughout the year.

Recreation Facilities

Polo Grounds

The Polo Grounds consist of a football field, baseball field, and a multi-purpose field. Currently under construction for additional multi-purpose fields.

Upper Polo Field Turf Project Information

Location: From the Rte. 202 Mt. Airy Road intersection travel 1 mile North on Anderson Hill Road. Right onto Seney Drive. Roadway 1/2 mile on Right at School.


Kiwanis consists of 2 Little League playing fields and Peter's Park Playground.

Location: From the Rte. 202 Mt. Airy Road intersection travel 1 mile South on Mt. Airy Road. Right onto Bernards Ave. Left onto Maple Street. Right onto Pine Street.


Claremont consists of a Little League field, Tiny Tot Playground, and the Recreation Field House.

Location: From the Rte. 202 Mt. Airy Road intersection travel North on Anderson Hill Road. Left onto Mine Mt. Road. Left onto Park Lane. Park is at the end of Park Lane.


Rosebowl is a lighted softball field.

Location: From the Rte. 202 Mt. Airy Road intersection travel 1 mile South on Route 202. Field is located after Borough Hall.

    We will announce programs on this website. We also advertise through the local newspaper, place notices via the Somerset Hills School Districts Fridays Folders, and also place flyers at the Bernardsville Library. We post on the Somerset Hills Schools District cable Channel 14 (Comcast).

    If my child goes to the Somerset Hills School district (which includes Far Hills, Peapack/Gladstone and Bedminster) am I considered a resident of Bernardsville?


    No, only if you live in the Borough of Bernardsville are you considered a resident.


Recreational Fields: Policy & Procedures


It is the goal of the Bernardsville Recreation Committee to encourage the usage of its recreational fields for worthwhile, non-profit purposes when such uses do not interfere with the Borough or school-sponsored recreational programs.

The Department of Recreation reserves the exclusive right to determine the eligibility of an organization and to assign a classification and prioritization to any application for the use of fields.

These organizations whose aim and intended use are consistent with the general policy- entitled Terms for Use of Fields – shall be considered eligible and classified as follows:

  1. Recreation shall be construed as any program sponsored by the Recreation Department.
  2. School shall be construed to mean any program sponsored by the Somerset Hills School District.
  3. Community shall be construed to mean an organization whose membership, the majority (50% + 1) of whose membership is domiciled in Bernardsville.
  4. Area shall be construed to mean an organization whose members reside in neighboring towns and at least 25% are Bernardsville residents.
  5. Out of Area shall be construed to mean an organization that has less than 25% of its members residing in Bernardsville.
  6. Any Area or Out of Area group will be required to submit its game/practice schedule to determine its field allocation, which will be based upon its resident ratio.
  7. Profit Organizations shall be assessed a fee under the following schedule as per Resolution #2000-31: Profit organizations: $200 for every 1 to 2 hrs block.
  8. Non-Profit Organizations must submit proof of their 501-(c) status.

Field Allocations: Fields will be allocated to the above Community, Area, and Out of Area groups according to percentage of Bernardsville residents.

Code of Conduct: The Recreation Committee supports sportsmanship on behalf of all involved in events conducted on Borough of Bernardsville property. In accordance with NJ Statutes Chapter 74 of Title 5 (August 25, 2002), applicants are required to submit their Code of Conduct for athletes, parents coaches, and officials addressing their guidelines for verbal threats, physical threats, profanity and initiation of fighting or contact. This should include policies for banning and reinstitution of persons who violate the code of conduct.

Rosters: All team organizations, excluding the schools, must submit team rosters that include names and addresses of all participants along with the field usage request.

Along with rosters, all teams must submit the dates, days, times and field/fields requested. Every organization’s authorized representative must sign and return the form provided that they have read and understand all rules and regulations.

Recreation Basketball 2015-2016 Season

Bernardsville Recreation is offering basketball programs for boys and girls. The programs have been grouped for Kindergarten through 1st Grade,  2nd Grade, 3rd through 4th Grade, and 5th through 8th Grade.

Registration is available now, and we encourage everyone to sign up quickly to ensure best placement for your child. Some program spaces will be limited. Registration forms for each group available below.

COACHES NEEDED:  The success of this program relies on volunteer coaches.  If you’re interested in helping your child’s team, please complete the coach’s portion of the registration.  ALL COACHES MUST BE CERTIFIED.  A copy must be on file in the Recreation Office prior to the start of the program.

Radio City Christmas Spectacular

Audiences of all ages will delight in this multifaceted spectacular including Santa flying high above the crowd, childhood dreams coming true in the Nutcracker and touched as the true meaning of Christmas is brought to life with the awe-inspiring Living Nativity, and the beautiful story of the first Christmas. The Radio City Christmas Spectacular is an enduring Christmas tradition which has dazzled and inspired for over 75 years and continues to create memories that last a lifetime.

Recreation Wrestling Program 2015-2016

Bernardsville Recreation is accepting registration for Wrestling (with the Raritan Valley Wrestling League) for all age groups.   This season's coaches will be available to answer any questions.  Midget practices will be Tuesdays and Thursdays (6:00 pm-8:00pm) and an occasional Saturday morning, Youth practices will be Monday and Wednesdays (6:00 pm–8:00pm) and Novice will meet Friday nights (6:00 pm-7:30 pm).   Volunteer coaches are also needed!  All coaches must be Rutgers certified.

Camelback Ski Trip 2016 for Students in 9th to 12th Grade

Bernardsville Recreation is sponsoring a 5 trip ski package to Camelback for high school students. The trips will run Wednesdays immediately after school is out.    

The dates of the trips are: January 13, January 20, January 27,  February 3, February 10

The fees are as follows:

$240.00 - *Night Rider season pass only available if paid by Nov. 11

$225.00 - Lift and Transportation        

$55.00 (extra) - Ski/Snowboard Rental          

$50.00 (extra) - Helmet Rentals with Wrist Guard

$20.00 (extra) - Wrist Guard Only                    

*Night Rider season pass includes: transportation to the mountain and back for 1/13, 1/20, 1/27, 2/3 and 2/10; from January 3, 2016 to February 29, 2016, unlimited skiing and riding 7 days/week after 3:00 pm; After March 1, unlimited skiing and riding 7 days/week open-to-close; and free ski check.  Equipment rental through Bernardsville Recreation is for the above dates only.  For the Night Rider pass, payment must be in the Recreation office no later than November 11.
