Recreation Department

The Recreation Department provides a variety of community recreation programs for children of all ages and adults. We provide:

  • Pool Memberships
  • Summer Camps
  • Trips
  • After school enrichment programs
  • Special events such as the Memorial Day Parade, Fishing Derby & Family Day

Recreation Programs

Bernardsville Recreation offers a variety of programs for all age groups year round.

The programs vary for the children: After School Enrichment, Basketball, Wrestling, Cartooning Workshops, a wide array of Summer Camps, and much more.

For the adults the programs offered are bus trips to different exciting locations and also we have Senior Theme Parties throughout the year.

Recreation Facilities

Polo Grounds

The Polo Grounds consist of a football field, baseball field, and a multi-purpose field. Currently under construction for additional multi-purpose fields.

Location: From the Rte. 202 Mt. Airy Road intersection travel 1 mile North on Anderson Hill Road. Right onto Seney Drive. Roadway 1/2 mile on Right at School.

Kiwanis

Kiwanis consists of 2 Little League playing fields and Peter's Park Playground.

Location: From the Rte. 202 Mt. Airy Road intersection travel 1 mile South on Mt. Airy Road. Right onto Bernards Ave. Left onto Maple Street. Right onto Pine Street.

Claremont

Claremont consists of a Little League field, Tiny Tot Playground, and the Recreation Field House.

Location: From the Rte. 202 Mt. Airy Road intersection travel North on Anderson Hill Road. Left onto Mine Mt. Road. Left onto Park Lane. Park is at the end of Park Lane.

Rosebowl

Rosebowl is a lighted softball field.

Location: From the Rte. 202 Mt. Airy Road intersection travel 1 mile South on Route 202. Field is located after Borough Hall.

    We will announce programs on this website. We also advertise through the local newspaper, place notices via the Somerset Hills School Districts Fridays Folders, and also place flyers at the Bernardsville Library. We post on the Somerset Hills Schools District cable Channel 14 (Comcast).

    No, only if you live in the Borough of Bernardsville are you considered a resident.

     

Recreational Fields: Policy & Procedures

POLICY

It is the goal of the Bernardsville Recreation Committee to encourage the usage of its recreational fields for worthwhile, non-profit purposes when such uses do not interfere with the Borough or school-sponsored recreational programs.

The Department of Recreation reserves the exclusive right to determine the eligibility of an organization and to assign a classification and prioritization to any application for the use of fields.

These organizations whose aim and intended use are consistent with the general policy- entitled Terms for Use of Fields – shall be considered eligible and classified as follows:

  1. Recreation shall be construed as any program sponsored by the Recreation Department.
  2. School shall be construed to mean any program sponsored by the Somerset Hills School District.
  3. Community shall be construed to mean an organization whose membership, the majority (50% + 1) of whose membership is domiciled in Bernardsville.
  4. Area shall be construed to mean an organization whose members reside in neighboring towns and at least 25% are Bernardsville residents.
  5. Out of Area shall be construed to mean an organization that has less than 25% of its members residing in Bernardsville.
  6. Any Area or Out of Area group will be required to submit its game/practice schedule to determine its field allocation, which will be based upon its resident ratio.
  7. Profit Organizations shall be assessed a fee under the following schedule as per Resolution #2000-31: Profit organizations: $200 for every 1 to 2 hrs block.
  8. Non-Profit Organizations must submit proof of their 501-(c) status.

Field Allocations: Fields will be allocated to the above Community, Area, and Out of Area groups according to percentage of Bernardsville residents.

Equal Opportunity: No applicant shall, be discriminated against and no applicant shall be denied use of the fields on the basis of race, color, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, religion or disability.

Code of Conduct: The Recreation Committee supports sportsmanship on behalf of all involved in events conducted on Borough of Bernardsville property. In accordance with NJ Statutes Chapter 74 of Title 5 (August 25, 2002), applicants are required to submit their Code of Conduct for athletes, parents coaches, and officials addressing their guidelines for verbal threats, physical threats, profanity and initiation of fighting or contact. This should include policies for banning and reinstitution of persons who violate the code of conduct.

Rosters: All team organizations, excluding the schools, must submit team rosters that include names and addresses of all participants along with the field usage request.

Along with rosters, all teams must submit the dates, days, times and field/fields requested. Every organization’s authorized representative must sign and return the form provided that they have read and understand all rules and regulations.

Memorial Day Parade

Monday, May 27th is the annual  Memorial Day Parade.  The Parade will begin promptly at 10:30 AM from Bernards High parking lot and proceed down Rte 202 to the Borough Hall for the ceremony.

Bernardsville Recreation 2013 Summer Camps

2013 Summer Camps registration begins on Saturday, April 13, 2013 from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Borough Hall or 8:00 AM online.

There are four different camps being offered. There are 16 different Art and Music programs, 11 Sports programs, 2 Science programs and additional courses such as Life Guard classes. Some of the programs that will be offered are Pony Camp and Pony Grooming, Cartooning, Red Hot Robots!, and Fly Fishing, to name just a few.  Please make sure you review the brochure for all details.

There is a Recreation Summer Camp from 9:00 AM to12:00 PM and an Extended Summer Day Camp  from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM.  For those enrolled in the morning day camp, campers will enjoy arts and crafts projects, sports and games, fin and feather week, and swimming at the Bernardsville Pool.  For those campers enrolled in the afternoon session, this session offers after lunch story time, sports and games, swimming and other fun activities.  There are also Field Trips for this session to choose from, so don’t miss registering your children because there is limited space on trips. Trips fill up fast so register early. Registrations on the day of the trip will not be accepted.

Bernardsville Municipal Pool Swim Lessons & Swim Team Registration

The Bernardsville Municipal Pool is offering swim lessons for three sessions. Session 1 is from June 24 to July 5. Session II is from July 8 to July 19. Session III is from July 22 to August 2. Participants are limited to two sessions. Swim lessons are very popular and classes fill up quickly. Class size will be limited. In order to reserve lessons, complete the registration form and return it along with your payment in person or mail it (view address on flyer below).

Come and be a part of the Swim Team Program. The Bernardsville Swim Team is comprised of boys and girls, aged 7-18 years of age who are interested in competitive swimming. The team competes in the Morris County Swim League and participates in 8 dual meets. Practices begin June 24th and concludes with the Meet of Champions. Regular attendance at practice is recommended. Although the nature of the team is competitive, fun activities such as bagel breakfasts and a Team Pasta party are planned at the pool. Swim Team members are encouraged to purchase a team suit.

2013 Pool Registration Begins

 
We know with this cold weather that no one is thinking of swimming in a pool yet. But pool registration for the 2013 Summer Season has begun!
 
Take advantage of the early registration discount offered in most categories.  Discounts apply to applications received or postmarked by March 31, 2013, and those that registered on line on or before March 31, 2013.  On or after April 1, 2013, the discount no longer applies.  There is a 3% processing fee for paying online.
 
If you would like to register by mail, go to the online forms page and complete the application and mail it to the Recreation Office or come into the Recreation Office and pick up a form.
 
This swim season will begin May 25th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. and end on Labor Day at 6:00 p.m. The pool will be open Thursday, June 20th from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.  The regular full time season begins Friday, June 21st at 11:00 a.m.
