Shade Tree Committee

Pruning Basics Demonstration

Trees have multiple benefits - they can add value to your home, save energy, produce oxygen, sequester carbon dioxide, tame stormwater, produce food and shelter for birds, and even foster happy and healthier communities.

The Shade Tree Committee, with the cooperation of the Garden Club and the support of the Green Team and the Environmental Commission, is hosting a Pruning Basics Demonstration on October 28, 2017 from 2 to 4 pm. We will meet in the library parking lot and the demonstration will begin with carefully chosen small trees around the library and move to Church Street if time permits. Dennis Galway will demonstrate ways to correctly prune trees with a couple of different tools he will bring.  Depending on the number of attendees, individuals may try pruning safely under the supervision of Dennis and Joe Latino, both seasoned tree experts. Handouts will be available for residents.
By understanding the basics of careful selective pruning, you can produce strong, healthy, beautiful trees that will enhance your home landscape and improve the quality of life in your community for years to come.

Please wear work-type clothes and sturdy shoes; adult residents of Bernardsville only.  Reservations suggested with Kathy Redling 908 766 3000 X 122.
