Volunteer Community Events at Bernards High School

The first ever combining of three significant Bernardsville volunteer events into one big event, took place on Saturday April 29, 2017 from 8 am to 1 pm at the Bernards High School parking lot.

The first event, E-waste recycling, organized by the Green Team, featured drive-thru service and off-loading from your car of old items including computers, printers, and many other electronics, even this bulky, old giant TV which Bernardsville resident, Ann Ferrante was glad to get rid.

Free tree seedlings were distributed by our Shade Tree Committee. NJ State Forestry generously donated these trees to replace trees lost by Super Storm Sandy, in conjunction with the Arbor Day Foundation, BJ's Wholesale Club, Canon, and Fed Ex.  Ann Wazeter, chair Shade Tree, gives tips on planting a white dogwood seedling to Bill Strazdas, of Bernardsville.

What's in your water? was the phrase used to attract residents to purchase an effective well test kit. Joan Contess of Bernardsville, picks up a basic kit to test for coliform bacteria and nitrate from volunteer in red hat, Mededith O'Neill, her daughter, Heidi, representing Raritan Headwaters and Carol Tiffany is partially obscured. Testing for other contaminants such as arsenic, and radon were available for an additional cost. Volunteers from the Bernardsville Environmental Commission and Raritan Headwaters gladly supplied information. More information is available at www.TestMyWell.org.

There was a tremendous amount of synergy developed by combining the three independent events, so plans are to repeat this joint event again next year.
